The DIFC Lighthouse Tower is an extremely elegant building. The design delivers a building that not only extends the architecture of the existing precinct balancing and complementing the Emirates Towers which sit on the opposite side of the district’s centrepiece, The Gate Building.
The 402m tower accommodates prestigious offices over 64 floors which sit above a two-storey podium and a leisure deck with health club, swimming pool, executive lounge and cultural spaces. The tapering shape of the building as it rises in height is a unique feature, with the area reducing from approximately 88m x 30m at the base to 46m x 10m at the top.
The brief was expanded to deliver all this in a low-carbon, sustainable and environmentally-responsive building, identifying more than 50 techniques to achieve an optimum solution. The tower’s structural bracing, which connects two cores is a diagonal motif used as a combination of both the mashrabiya and the DIFC logo illuminated by over 6,000 LED lights creating a filigree of light against the night sky.
